After learning about the Pineywoods Cattle through the ALBC and seeing that this breed is particularly well suited to our environment, we have decided to concentrate our energy there. The Pineywoods are descended from the Spanish herds brought to the so-called Old Southwest
(Louisiana, Mississippi, etc.) in the 16th century and were the backbone of the old logging and cattle culture that made up those states. Today, however, there are fewer than 300 individuals but some serious conservation effort is paving the way for a restoration. We encourage you to try some of the beef from the Pineywoods Cattle, which has been included in Slow Food's Ark of Taste.
