Jarl Andræs Mikkelgaard

Welcome to the homepage of Jarl Andræs Mikkelgaard. Jarl Andræs is the Earl of Orkney, ruling both Orkneyar and Hjaltland. Andræs Mikkelgaard was born to Rögnvald, the son of Brúsi, son of Sigurd the Stout, in 1027. Andræs Mikkelgaard assumed the Earldom of Orkney at age 29 after a bloody stuggle with his half granduncle, Thorfinn, following the death of Andræs's father, Earl Rögnvald. Jarl Andræs lives in Kirkiuvág, Orkneyar with his wife Arlette, the daughter of Guillaume "Bras de Fer" de Hauteville.

Jarl Mikkelgaard is of course a fictitious persona I have invented for a variety of occasions. Arlette is the persona developed for my wife Michelle. Although neither Jarl Mikkelgaard nor Arlette are historical figures, the events and people of the mid-eleventh century in which they are situated are largely historical. I first created the name Andræs Mikkelgaard, but with a different title (Kurfürst), for the PC games Age of Empires II and Neverwinter Nights. I have further developed the lore associated with Andræs Mikkelgaard and hope to make that my character name should I ever decide to actually join the Society for Creative Anachronism.
