Hey, I haven't been keeping up on the progress of the Casad baby but I am glad to hear things are going well. A girl is no surprise to me, I thought it might be a girl in fact. Everyone I know that is having a baby now is having a girl. Not sure why the trend but it should be fun.

I certainly haven't read it in its entirety, but Evans' Whole Pregnancy Handbook has also been helpful for us. Thanks for the other recommendations as well. I'd recommend Daddyhood: This Changes Everything! by Daniel Driscoll to Justin as well. Its not so much a "what to expect" book, but much more a reflection on the spirituality of fatherhood.

Hooray! What wonderful news! My sister in law has an unusual and lovely OT name, it's one of my favorites: Havaleh

I know what you mean about a lot of pregnancy books being so needlessly dire. With this in mind, here's a short reading list from the librarian (with props to Eleanor & Tamas who recommended some of these to me):

Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy
The Whole Pregnancy Handbook by Joel M. Evans
Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn by Simkin, Whalley & Keppler
The Nursing Mother's Companion by Kathleen Huggins
Our Babies, Ourselves: How Biology and Culture Shape the Way We Parent by Meredith Small

Justin said he found these to be helpful:
The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin
The Expectant Father by Brott and Ash
Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dads by Greenberg and Hayden (a great find from Diana)

Wishing you all the best! Enjoy your 2nd trimester! As for childbirth itself, don't worry too much: Eleanor told me that labor & delivery are not the hard part; the next 3 months are the hard part. From my experience she was certainly right!

One last thing to an already too long post: let me know if you want info on cloth diapering. I did a boatload of research, and can tell you about our experience thus far if you're interested...
